Frequently Asked Questions: What is SIP made of? Most structural insulated panels(SIPS) use EPS(Expanded Polystyrene) or XPS(Extruded Polystyrene) foam sandwiched in between OSB(oriented strand board). What kind of foam do we use? We use urethane foam that is not sandwiched between any other building materials. All seams and welds are sealed with foam sealant. What is the advantage of not sandwiching the foam between OSB or other building materials? You do not have the potential for termites and other wood/paper consuming insects. How thick are the foam panels? The wall panels are 3.5 inches thick and the roof panels are 6.0 inches thick. What is the R value? The panels have an R value of 41. What kind of bracing do we use? We only use galvanized steel bracing. What is the wind rating? Our structures are rated to withstand 200+ M.P.H winds. What kind of roofing material do we use? We only use G90 galvanized steel roofing. What is the expected life of the panels? The expected life of our panels is 150 years. The roof is guaranteed for 40 years. What about the slab thickness? The thickness depends upon structural needs and varies from build to build. |
