You can build a
beautiful, nearly disaster proof home that is so
environmentally friendly and energy efficient that the
Environmental Protection Agency doesn't have a rating
for it. These amazing, affordable homes are not only
nearly maintenance free, they will be a long-term
investment that you could pass down to your children and
grandchildren! Costs to build are comparable to a
standard wood-frame home.
AMP HOMES'
hurricane-resistant homes are gaining popularity in
Florida, Texas and other vulnerable areas since last
year's devastating hurricane season. The homes are
comprised of Galvalume® steel roofs, structural
insulated panels and a Galvalume® steel frame. The
dwellings also are highly energy-efficient and will not
rot or suffer from termite infestations. They are priced
similarly to traditional stick-built homes and can be
fully constructed in less than thirty days.
More Than
Efficient - At a time when the expression "energy
efficient" has come to mean a building utilizes a few
extra inches of insulation or double-pane glass we
hesitate to conjure that imagery in the minds of
potential home buyers by using the same expression. The
AMP Home system has been proven to be more than "energy
efficient" in the common sense by cutting heating and
cooling expenses by half or more.
About
SIP's
Structural
Insulated Panel (SIP) wall, roof and floor systems replace
all exterior-supporting walls in buildings. Diverse in
application, SIP's are used effectively
in conventional, timber-framed, steel framed, log homes,
multi-unit and light commercial construction. Our structures
are all steel frame structures.
We also use SIP's for the interior supporting walls for
added seismic strength, sound block and fire separation.
Our panels are constructed with gavalume steel bracing as
well, adding durability and strength to them. They have
a 150 year life expectancy.
Durable
and lightweight, inert foam is used in the fabrication
of SIPs -- the same foams often found in bicycle helmets.
The most common type of foam is EPS (expanded polystyrene),
however XPS (extruded polystyrene) and polyurethane are
other products used within the SIP industry. Our
panels use urethane foam and do not feature an OSB or
any other outer skin. This dramatically reduces the chances
of infestation by termites or other wood consuming insects.
Size
and Thickness
Structural
Insulated Panels are manufactured in a variety of sizes
and thickness. Again this depends on the specific building
requirements. Our wall panels are 4" thick while
our ceiling panels are 6" thick. One of the benefits
of SIP construction is many panels are light enough to
install by hand. For the larger assemblies and roof panels,
a crane makes short work of the installation labor.
Insulation(R)Value
Since urethane
foam has a greater R value per inch than EPS or XPS, our
SIP panels are highly insulative. The wall panels
carry an R value of 41 while the ceiling panels carry
an R value of 50. This translates to much
lower heating and cooling costs than a conventional home.
Manufacturer/Fabricators
A variety
of manufacturer/fabricator suppliers exist within the
SIP industry. Some manufacturers specialize in Structural
Insulated Panels and only manufacture SIPs. For others,
SIPs are one of many in a group of products they manufacture.
The same diversity holds true for fabricators. Panels
can be pre-cut by an independent service, separate from
a manufacturer or by the SIP manufacturer itself. This
final group of manufacturer/fabricators offers the most
complete service - custom-made panels to fabrication to
ready-to-install delivery and assistance. We custom
manufacture and fabricate our panels according to building
requirements and structural needs.
Applications
SIP roof,
wall and floor systems are used in a variety of building
types. These can include conventional stick-built, log
homes, timber framed homes, steel framed structures, multiunit
complexes and light commercial buildings.
Galvalume Steel
Framing
Our structures feature
all galvalume steel framing and supports (55% Aluminum-Zinc
alloy coated sheet steel (better known as GALVALUME®).
Interior load-bearing shear walls
consist of 20-ga. 2"x4"
steel studs at 16" o.c. cross braced with
2" 20-ga hurricane straps. The ceiling joists and
rafters are 20-ga. 2"x6" steel studs at 16" o.c.
Our corners are cross braced with 3"x3"x¼" square
steel tubing which are engineered to withstand 300 MPH
winds.
Timber
framers began using SIPs to enclose their homes as far
back as the 1970's simply because of the energy efficiency
and superior strength advantages they offer over other
construction methods. Log homes builders were not far
behind. The strength to weight ratio is high. There is great flexibility
at the laminating stage and the urethane adhesive readily
bonds most materials.
Economics
A
SIP home can realize huge savings on construction labor
resulting in a real reduction in insurance and financing
costs. Some homes built with structural insulated
panels may be completely enclosed within hours. This,
of course, depends on the size and complexity of the home's
design.
Another
big saving to construction costs is that job-site theft
of materials is reduced. As one SIP builder ponders, "You can steal
2"x4"'s, plywood decking, and other construction
materials but what are you going to do with custom
fitted SIP panels?"
Moisture-Free.
A SIP
home is clean and fresh. Extremely air tight, structural
insulated panels lock out the risk of molds and mildews
growing behind walls and contaminating the indoor air.
Outside air simply cannot get in. This ability
to self-insulate translates into savings both for energy
consumption as well as size of equipment needed to maintain
comfortable indoor temperatures. To ensure a
fresh and abundant supply of healthy indoor air in a
SIP home, an air-to-air exchanger of the HVAC system is
usually integrated into the home's heating and cooling
equipment.
Quieter
A side-benefit
for the homeowner is the soundproofing attribute
of Structural Insulated Panels. AMP
Homes SIP construction is ideal for reducing outside
noise from traffic, aircraft, barking dogs or even
thunder. The ability to escape the noise of the outside
world and create your own atmosphere is a great luxury.
Homes built with
SIP's are quieter and more comfortable to live in.
Safer
Fire requires three components, fuel, heat and oxygen.
Since SIPs have no air pockets within their solid foam
cores, fire cannot race up the wall cavities.
SIPs have passed every
standard fire test that is required of wood based construction
and outperforms traditional home construction.
Environmental
AMP
Homes' structural systems are friendly to the
environment for several good reasons:
1.
Saves woodlands - There is no need to use wood in the
construction of an AMP Home. The basic structure does
not use wood. Using wood in the interior is optional.
2. Reduces pollution - This past year more than 869
million metric tons of pollution were produced by
conventional homes just for heating and cooling in
America alone. AMP Homes produce 90% less pollutants
than current modern housing. If everyone in America
chose the AMP Home system, the airborne pollution
problem would be largely mitigated.
3. Reduces Global Warming Effect - Little or no
heating/cooling is needed. AMP Homes themselves maintain
their temperature well. Very little energy is required
by the heating or cooling system as very little escapes
into the environment.
4. Saves resources - An AMP Home saves on natural
resources because the AMP Home lasts 5-10 times longer
than a conventional home. It follows that each AMP Home
built eliminates the need for 3 or more conventional
homes to be built in the next 100+ years. AMP Homes
superior strength make them much less vulnerable to
tornados, hurricanes, and earthquakes.
5.
Saves on maintenance - An AMP Home saves on continual
reconstruction and maintenance through its durability
and long life cycle. There was a day when homes were
passed down from generation to generation, but this has
not been true in recent years. Most homes built in the
last century are in a constant state of re-building that
we call "maintenance." Rot, insect infestations, water
damage, simple wear and tear, and a host of other evils
are the culprits as they force the homeowner to
constantly expend time, energy, and money caulking,
painting, re-roofing, fumigating, and combating decay.
With an AMP Home there is no major maintenance for up to
40 years.
6. Reduces pesticides - AMP Homes reduces the use of
pesticides and other chemicals. Because the AMP Home is
virtually impervious to moisture and insects, the need
for pesticides and other chemicals is greatly reduced.
Are you concerned about global warming, forest
conservation, air pollutants, allergens, the overuse of
fossil fuels, safety from natural disasters like
hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes?
AMP Homes address all these issues with affordable and
beautiful custom house designs. For close to the same
cost as comparable wood frame housing you can save the
earth and protect you and your family with a home that
will last for more than a hundred years.
There is only one earth. You can do your part to protect
it and your family when you build an Advanced
Manufactured Panel Home.
Environmental friendly,
our SIP construction uses no dimensional
lumber. The insulation is a form of plastic, a byproduct
of the petroleum industry. The framing and supports are
made of galvalume steel. SIP's are completely recyclable.
Our structures can withstand winds up to and over 200

Roofing
We use
G90 24 ga. galvalume steel for our roofing material. Our
roofs carry a 40 year warranty.
Prepainted steel is maintenance free.
It also has a shorter installation time and is not
affected by the weather.
The steel roof deck with its durable
weather resistant baked-on coating sits over 20 ga.
gavalume steel joists. The same roofing material
is used for soffits, facia and the exposed ceiling of
open front and rear porch or patio areas. This greatly
reduces the water rot, bug infestation, deterioration
and resulting maintenance expense when compared to the
traditional timber framed home.
